In Remembrance of Grandsire Doubles

Good gods.

That’s the  chamber I used to ring bells from at St. Paul’s, Wokingham, in the early ’70s.

The floor has gone.

A lightning strike started a fire on 28th January, 2004. The bells were trashed and landed in the atrium below.

I believe that’s the treble and my own bell, the 2nd, on the floor there.

I can just hear my Atheist friends chortling at the idea of a bolt of lightning decimating the spire and belltower of the Christian god’s place of worship.

However, all was not lost – or not lost for long, anyway; they got a peal of new ones.
